Mantel que cruzó la frontera, de ida y vuelta, y mi hermana no / Tablecloth that crossed the border, back and forth, and my sister didn’t, 2020. Embroidery on painting drop cloth. In collaboration with Minerva Pérez. Dimensions: 132 in. x 72 in.

During the exhibition of La sala de la mesa indocumentada, the tablecloth embroidered by my sister was displayed on the wall as a screen for a video projection. the video is a multi-media collage of videos sourced from my family members. During the timeframe of the project, I asked family to record for me and send to me various short videos from their lives. This included videos of their work lives, as well as additional things such as family parties and meals, dancing, my brother’s trip to México, my sister embroidering the tablecloth, and I also added in some short video performances that I had made. Taken together, this served as a space for thinking about multiple and layered campesino/immigrant identities, as individuals and as family.
